Lea Gilmore is one of the world's most respected and in demand Gospel, Blues, Jazz and Inspirational singers. It has been said that "Lea Gilmore's rich and passionate voice is a gift from her soul to our ears." From her beginnings as a soloist in the Morgan University Choir, Lea's singing career has taken her from music festivals and concert halls in the US to the cathedrals of Europe. Lea will be accompanied onstage by former Kennedy Center/U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassadors Eric Byrd (piano) and Bhagwhan Kalso (acoustic bass) of the Eric Byrd Trio and Christopher James (guitar). Also joining Lea will be special guests Phil Wiggins, Shelley Ensor, Delegate Mary Washington, Steve Haddad, Gina de Luca and Lea's son, Jonathan Gilmore! This promises to be a night of deep soul, swinging harmony, and passionate vocals that will sweep you away!
Lea was chosen one of "25 Women Shaping the World" by Essence Magazine and is a Blues Foundation Keeping the Blues Alive Award winner. Lea is a former Deputy Director of the Baltimore chapter of the ACLU, a member of the Common Ground on the Hill Advisory Board, and currently serves as a member of the Maryland State Advisory Board to the US Commission on Civil Rights. www.leagilmore.com
